Meet Bekah Southern, Resident in Counseling
Bekah Southern is a warm, dedicated Resident in Counseling who is passionate about creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients can feel seen, heard, and empowered to pursue meaningful change. She brings a wealth of experience in the mental health field, having worked with individuals across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, and adults—as well as with families navigating complex relational and emotional challenges.
Bekah takes a collaborative, client-centered approach to therapy, combining elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy to meet each client exactly where they are. She believes in helping individuals explore their unique goals and values while offering practical tools and compassionate guidance to move through life’s stressors and transitions.
Bekah’s path to becoming a counselor was deeply influenced by her early professional experiences in the criminal justice system. After earning dual bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration (Management) and Criminal Justice from Radford University in 2017, she completed her Master of Science in Criminal Justice at Liberty University in 2019. She began her career working on the mental health unit of a Level 4 state prison, where she developed a deep interest in the intersection of mental health, trauma, and rehabilitation.
Motivated to make a more direct and lasting impact in the lives of others, Bekah returned to Liberty University to pursue a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which she completed in 2023. During this time, she worked extensively in community-based services, providing Mental Health Skill-Building and Intensive In-Home Services as both a clinician and later an Administrative Coordinator. Her clinical experience expanded further when she began offering outpatient therapy and supervising QMHPs in June 2023 as a Clinical Coordinator and Resident in Counseling.
In June 2025, Bekah joyfully welcomed her first child and has since chosen to focus solely on outpatient therapy at Body and Mindfully Healthy. She is excited to continue her journey as a therapist by walking alongside clients through life’s challenges, offering both professional insight and genuine care.
Outside the therapy room, Bekah enjoys quality time with her daughter and her beloved fur babies, curling up with a good book, and going on peaceful “walkies” to recharge and reconnect with nature.
Bekah is committed to fostering a space where clients can feel safe, supported, and encouraged as they work toward healing and growth - one step at a time.
